Saudi Trademark Registration Checklist 2026

A short, practical guide from idea to registration certificate: print it or save it as a PDF and tick off each step as you go. The information comes from official Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) sources, updated October 2026.

Before Filing

  • Decide what you want to protect: the name, the logo, or both.
  • Search registered marks (SAIP’s self-search is free) for identical marks and marks similar in sound and meaning, in Arabic and English.
  • Identify the Nice classes that cover your current and planned activity using our Nice Class Finder.
  • Draft the list of goods or services precisely within each class.
  • Estimate government fees with our fee calculator: SAR 6,500 per class for a standard trademark.
  • Avoid wide public launch before filing where possible, since filing priority matters.

Filing and Examination

  • File on SAIP’s unified platform and pay the examination fee (SAR 1,000 per class).
  • Respond to examiner objections: required amendments must be made within 90 days, or the application is deemed abandoned.
  • If the application is refused, a grievance may be filed within 60 days of notification.
  • After acceptance, pay the publication fee (SAR 500 per class).

Publication and Registration

  • The mark is published for 60 days, during which any interested party may oppose.
  • If no opposition is filed, pay the registration fee (SAR 5,000 per class) within 30 days of the final invoice.
  • Keep your registration certificate safe: protection lasts ten years.

After Registration

  • Diary the renewal window: during the last year of protection (SAR 5,500 + SAR 1,000 publication per class).
  • If you miss it, there is a six-month grace period at a higher fee (SAR 6,500 + SAR 1,000 publication); after that the mark is removed.
  • Watch the market and newly published marks so you can oppose similar marks in time.
  • Record any licences or assignments with SAIP.
  • To expand abroad: the Madrid System has been in force for Saudi Arabia since 8 October 2026 and can cover many countries with one application.

This checklist is general information, not legal advice. Fees may change and SAIP’s invoice is the final reference. For a review of your case, visit our contact page or WhatsApp +966504644436.
